Today was the first day of Daylight Saving time! For me, it is the first official indicator that Spring is almost here and Summer will be here soon. I always look forward to the time change in the Spring. I hate to say it, but as much as I love the Fall, I don’t like “Falling Back.”
I think I probably have Seasonal Affective Disorder! It’s not an official diagnosis, but I know that I’m always in a better mood when there is more sunlight and I really dread being in complete darkness by 5:00 p.m. Now that we’ve sprung forward, I’m looking forward to longer and longer days ahead. I love that feeling in the middle of the summer, when it’s well after 7:00 p.m. and there’s still at least a glint of daylight.

Of course, it’s not just the clock (or the calendar for that matter) that’s telling me Spring is almost here. The daffodils have broken through and are bringing their bright yellow clumps to lawns and hills all across Middle Tennessee. I also see cherry trees starting to pop with their blossoms. I always get a little nervous when I start seeing Spring flowers a little early. Old Man Winter is still out there and could ice out those blooms. For now, I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
Several big events in Nashville help mark the beginning of Spring. One of them began this weekend, but I won’t get a chance to go until tomorrow. It’s the annual “Cheekwood in Bloom” celebration. Thousands and thousands of flowers of all colors will be in full bloom. From tulips to forsythia branches and more. I can’t wait to go out and get pictures of it all.
The other big event is the Cherry Blossom Festival. Not the really big one everyone knows about in Washington, DC. Nashville has it’s own Cherry Blossom Festival and Music City also has a special relationship with a sister city in Japan that’s celebrated in this event. Even though I’m starting to see Cherry blossoms already, Nashville’s Cherry Blossom Festival won’t kick off until early next month.

Spring is now officially just two weeks away and it looks like Mother Nature is ready to give us an amazing show. I’m looking forward to every moment of it!
